About me
René Rodlauer is a Vienna-based director known for combining emotionally nuanced storytelling with a precise visual language.
Entirely self-taught, René built his foundation across multiple departments of film production, giving him a hands-on understanding of the craft behind every frame.
He is drawn to the emotional bonds people form with the things they love, and to the ways brands, objects, and pop culture shape identity. His films often blend practical and visual effects to create immersive, stylized worlds that feel vivid, tactile, and cinematically rich.
He has directed work for global brands including Lidl, OBI, L’Oréal, IKEA, Union Investment, Woom Bikes, and Warner Music, alongside leading Austrian companies such as ÖBB, Erste Bank, Vöslauer, AMA, Wiener Stadtwerke, and Salzburg AG.
Balancing creative vision with structured production craft, René guides each project from first idea to final frame, shaping image, emotion, and meaning with clarity and intent.
René serves on the board of DRCT, the Directors Association for Commercials and Branded Content, which represents the professional interests of commercial directors in Germany. He also teaches the “Commercial Film and AI” module at the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten.
